Ben Cobham
On Ben's twelfth birthday, his parents blessed him with 15 amp power to the garage. It was here that his first creations with light began, for his own backyard theatre shows. By sixteen, Ben was touring with Tasdance. One Extra and Dance North. Since then, having completed his Diploma of Dramatic Arts/ Production at the Victorian College of the Arts, he has been prolific as as freelance lighting designer, mechanist and production manager, nationally and internationally.
Ben recently had the opportunity to work for the Melbourne Theatre Company, Victoria State Opera and The Australian Ballet, all in one production of Romeo and Juliet at the State Theatre. His major interest is designing for visually based theatre, including most recently, Circus Oz, Danceworks and Recharge Theatre. Ben has also designed for music groups such as My Friend The Chocolate Cake, outdoor community spectaculars including the Mount Gambier Blue Lake Festival and the opening of the Renoir exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. Ben is currently interested in architectural interior lighting and bringing a theatrical influence to corporate events.
