REMEMBER

Written and directed by Jenny Kemp, songs by Dalmazio Umberto Babare

REMEMBER is a story that takes a provocative look at the complexity of the human mind. Moderna, a woman who, through her strive for independence and success is faced with the ultimate confrontation. Rape and then murder of her brutal assailant. The story traces her unfolding of the event from the confinements of her hospital bed. With surrealism at its best, Moderna struggles to come to terms with her horror through dreams, visions, fantasy and the exploration of her own sub‑conscious. Written and directed by Jenny Kemp [well known for her acclaimed 'Call of the Wild.'], REMEMBER is portrayed through highly visual and thought provoking images. Through the unique juxtapositions of scenes, an interaction of both past and present is displayed and combines fantasy with harsh reality to form a very powerful content.

A mixture of both contemporary opera and drama, REMEMBER composes both superb acting and singing to create a highly original performance. For those who have ever had to endure a traumatic event, REMEMBER is a story that will undoubtedly move you. For others, I feel that you will be impressed by the strength of the human spirit. REMEMBER is currently playing at the Gasworks Theatre, for bookings please phone 699 3253. REVIEWER : Angela Geylswyh
