Another production that relies on its set for much of its effect is Remember, showing at the Gasworks Theatre. Jenny Kemp, well known for her previous work, Call Of The Wild, wrote and directed this play about rape and murder.
This play is very image‑based. As Moderna sits in her hospital bed and tries to recover from her brutal rape and shooting of the rapist, scenes from her past, present, dreams and imagination ebb and flow around her. The result is stimulating and provocative but, unfortunately, entirely intellectual. Remember engages the mind and the eyes but not the emotions.
There are some lovely songs, composed by Dalmazio Babare, and the surreal and comic edges to the production make it intriguing to watch. Margaret Mills gives a clear, fine performance as the presentday Moderna.
